Issue

When attempting to send control codes to a Toshiba Projector using HyperTerminal nothing happens.

Resolution
  1. Verify that you are using the correct serial control cable for the projector being used. The serial control cable typically ships with the projector.
  2. Verify that you have configured HyperTerminal to use the correct communications port.
  3. Verify that the communications settings (baud, data bits, stop bits, and parity) and set correctly. This information is typically in the Owners Manual for the projector.
  4. Make sure that you are sending the serial control code correctly. With the exception of the Toshiba TLP-X4100 LCD projector, the control codes are sent in the following format: STX (02h) | Command (3 byte) | ETX (03h). The code for STX (02h) is sent by holding down the Ctrl key while pressing the letter B. The code for ETX (03h) is sent by holding down the Ctrl key while pressing the letter C. For example, pressing Crtl+BPONCtrl+C (Do not type + signs) is the control sequence to power on the projector.
  5. Certain Toshiba projectors (TDP-T90/T91/TW90, TLP-380, TLP-381,TLP-780, TLP-781, TLP-790, and TLP-791) require the command sequence to be sent within one second. As this is almost impossible to do typing commands in HyperTerminal, it is recommended that use a video controller or upgrade to HyperTerminal Private Edition which allows you to assign the control code to a keystroke. HyperTerminal Private Edition is a free upgrade available from http://www.hilgraeve.com.
