- Issue
The following message may appear as the computer attempts to boot (load the operating system): "PXE-E61 Media Test Fails"This is a Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) error that may occur if "LAN" is the highest priority item in the Boot Priority list maintained by BIOS Setup, and a network connection to a boot server cannot be found.Â
- Resolution
One of the follow actions may resolve the problem:-
If the computer is connected to a LAN, make sure that the cable is not loose, or disconnected, and that the LAN itself is operational.
-
Set the Boot Priority list in BIOS Setup so that something other than "LAN" is the first device. ("FDD" (diskette drive) or "HDD" (hard disk drive), for example).
-
Reset the BIOS Setup to default settings.
Boot Priority options include:
- FDD > HDD > CD-ROM > LAN
- HDD > FDD > CD-ROM > LAN
- FDD > CD-ROM > LAN > HDD
- HDD > CD-ROM > LAN > FDD
- CD-ROM > LAN > FDD > HDD
- CD-ROM > LAN > HDD > FDD
Please see Support Bulletin 98081013 for an explanation of how to access the computer's BIOS Setup.
If none of the suggestions above help, there may be a problem with the hard disk drive. For a list of Toshiba Authorized Service Providers worldwide, please visit http://pcrepair.toshiba.com or call 800-457-7777.
