Overview

Sharing movies, videos, music and pictures is easy on your Toshiba TV or Blu-ray player with DLNA. This document covers four topics to help you start sharing media on your Toshiba TV or Blu-ray player quickly and easily.

    • Hooking up your DLNA TV with Digital Media Renderer capabilities to your home network with a DLNA Media Server and using a tablet to control the content between the TV and Media Server. NOTE: In place of the tablet you can use a Smart Phone connected to your home network running Digital Media Controller software to control content playback between your TV and Media Server

Terminology

DMS (Digital Media Server)
Software or a device that can serve media files to other devices on a network. Media files can be Movies, Pictures and Audio.

DMP (Digital Media Player)
Software or a device that can play media files from a DLNA server (DLNA-DMS). Typically this can be a TV, Computer, Tablet or other type of display device.

DMC (Digital Media Controller)
This is a Digital Media Server that can also "push" files to compatible devices. The server software can instruct a compatible device which media files to play.

DMR (Digital Media Renderer)
This is a device that can receive commands from a Digital Media Controller. DMC compatible server software can instruct a DMR which media files to play. A DMR also features the functionality of a Digital Media Player.
 

TV and Blu-ray Player Setup

Before setting up your TV to play media you must have a Media Server attached to your local network. As shown in the configuration section this can be a dedicated Media Server or a computer running Media Server Software. Windows Media Player 12 (bundled with Windows 7) can be used as a DLNA Media Server.
NOTE: Consult you Users Guide for step-by-step instructions on setting up the Media Player on your specific model.

Setting up a TV with DLNA

Connect your TV to your Home Network
On a Toshiba SMART TV

  • Press the ePORTAL button on the remote
  • Select the Video, Music, or Photos Icon then press the OK button
  • Select the device to retrieve the shared media from if prompted
  • Select the file or folder in the list of contents to play

On other Toshiba TV’s with Media Sharing capabilities

  • Press the MENU button on the remote
  • Select Applications-->Media Player-->OK
  • Select the Photo, Movie or Music then press the OK button
  • Select the device to retrieve the shared media from if prompted
  • Select the file or folder in the list of contents to play

Setting up a Blu-ray Player with DLNA

  • Connect your Blu-ray player to your Home Network
  • Connect your Blu-ray player to a Television
  • Set the Media Server Search to Enable.
  • In the Home menu select Video, Music, or Photo, and then press the OK button.
  • Select a Media Server then press OK.
  • Select Video, Music or Photo, and press OK. It should match the selection in the HOME menu. (If you selected Video in HOME menu, you also should select Video here.)
  • Select a file (or folder), and press the OK or PLAY button to start playback

Supported Formats

  • PICTURES: JPEG (GIF, TIFF, PNG are optional depending on your model)
  • VIDEO: MPEG2 (MPEG1, MPEG4, WMV9 are optional depending on your model)
  • AUDIO: LPCM 2 Channel (MP3, WMA9, AC-3, AAC, ATRAC3plus  are optional depending on your model)
