Screen blanks out, then displays error message -- corrected by ATI display driver version 8.383.1.1

Issue


On the Satellite A130/A135 models listed above, the LCD display screen may go blank momentarily, and then display this error message:

Display Driver R300 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

This problem occurs with display driver versions 8.31.100.32 and 7.14.10.830.

Resolution


1. Download and install version 8.383.1.1 or newer of the ATI display driver from the Toshiba Service and Support website.

2. Uninstall the old driver.

3. Install the new driver.

Procedure


1. Click the following link to download the ATI display driver version 8.383.1.1. Save the downloaded driver file driver_video_ati_os2007246a.exe to the Windows Desktop.

Uninstall the existing ATI display driver, as follows:

     2. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.

     3. Click Uninstall a program below the Programs heading, as shown below.

     4. Click ATI Catalyst Install Manager as shown below, then click Change.

     5. Click Next .

     6. Click the Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software button as shown below then click Next. If a User Account Control window is displayed click Allow.

The uninstall program will start. It may take several minutes to remove the driver and other software components.

      7. Click Remove. If a User Account Control window is displayed click Allow.

      8. Click Finish, then click Yes to restart the computer.

Install the new ATI display driver, as follows:

     9. Double-click the downloaded file driver_video_ati_os2007246a.exe.

    10. Click OKUnzip then OK. If an Open File - Security Warning window is displayed, click Run. If a User Account Control window is displayed click Continue.

    11. Click OK, then Next.

    12. Click the Install icon, as shown below.

    13. Click Express as shown below then click Next.

    14. Click Accept to accept the End User License Agreement.

    15. Click Yes to create the install folder. The installation may take several minutes.

    16. Click Finish to complete the install, and Yes to reboot.

The symptoms described above should no longer occur.
