Issue

Windows "blue screen" error messages (white characters against a solid blue background) may occur -- and the computer may 'lock up' -- when the Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 application is running -- under the following three conditions:

  • The computer has the Realtek High Definition audio chipset.

  • The Realtek audio driver's version is 5.10.0.5200 or lower.

  • The computer is one of the following models, with Part Numbers matching those shown (in parentheses):

    • Tecra A7 (PTA70U-xxxxxx, and PTA71U-xxxxxx)

    • Satellite A105 (PSAA8U-xxxxxx)

    • Satellite A100-SP471

    • other Satellite A100 (PSAA9U-xxxxxx) models

The Part Number can be found on a sticker on the bottom surface of the computer.

This problem is known to occur only when all three of the above conditions are present.

Resolution

Update the Realtek High Definition audio driver from version 5.10.0.5200 to at least 5.10.0.5253 .

Procedure

Perform the following steps, as described below, in this particular order:

1. Determine whether or not the computer has the Realtek High Definition chipset,
and has an older driver, and is one of the affected models.
2. Download the new driver.
3. Remove (un-install) the old driver.
4. Install the new driver.

1. Check for the Realtek High Definition chipset, version number, and computer part number

1. From the Windows Desktop, double-click the Toshiba Assist icon, shown below.

2. Click the PROTECT & FIX tab, then click the PC Diagnostic Tool icon, as shown below.

3. Verify that the Sound field shows the "Realtek High Definition" chipset (as shown below). If a different chipset name is displayed, then this bulletin does not apply to this computer. Do not complete the following steps.

4. Verify that the version shown is 5.10.0.5200 or lower. If the version shown is already 5.10.0.5253 (as shown below) or greater, then this bulletin does not apply to this computer. Do not complete the following steps.

5. Verify that the computer Part Number field shows either PTA70U-xxxxxx, PTA71U-xxxxxx, PSAA8U-xxxxxx, or PSAA9U-xxxxxx. If the Part Number is not one of the above-mentioned numbers, then this bulletin does not apply to this computer. Do not complete the following steps.

If all three of the indications above are shown, then complete the following steps to install the newer driver.

 2. Download the new driver

3. Remove the old driver

          1. Close all running programs and open documents.

2. Click Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.

3. Select "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" and click the Remove button.

4. Click Yes to confirm the uninstall operation.

5. Click Finish. The computer should restart.

6. After the computer restarts Windows, Click the Cancel button when the "Found New Hardware Wizard" window appears.

4. Install the new driver

1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the downloaded file audio_5253_WHQL_EQ.exe to start the installation.

2. Click OK, then click Unzip.

3. Click OK, then click Next.

The installation will take several minutes.

4. Click Finish. The computer will restart, and then the driver installation will be complete.
