Issue
What is the purpose of the large file called Toshiber.dat in the root directory of my hard drive, can I remove it?
Procedure
The "TOSHIBER.DAT" file is the reserved drive space that the computer uses to store the contents of the RAM and VRAM when the computer is in it's Hibernate mode. You can enable/disable the Hibernate function of the computer through the Control Panel>Power>Hibernate. Removing the "TOSHIBER.DAT" file may provide some free hard disk space however by disabling the Hibernate function of the computer your hibernate mode will no longer work and you experience related error messages. Toshiba does not recommend removing TOSHIBER.DAT. If you do remove it see the "Important Note" below. The "TOSHIBER.DAT" file is large because it has to be able to store the entire contents of the computer's memory, up to the maximum amount of memory including video memory that can be added to the computer. A rough calculation would be the Maximum memory possible for the specific model +10MB.

Important Note: If you have deleted or have a corrupted TOSHIBER.DAT file you will find a utility called "t8kalloc.exe" on the Toshiba Website at: http://pcsupport.toshiba.com which contains a file, "Halloc.exe", which re-creates the TOSHIBER.DAT file.
