Setup and software installation

Follow the steps below to set up your Toshiba Multimedia Center, and install its drivers and applications on your computer.  These instructions apply to all supported Windows operating systems.

1. Connect the USB Cable to the USB port (the small USB connector next to the power connector) on the Toshiba Multimedia Center.

2. Connect the other end of the USB Cable to one of your computer's USB port. If the computer is on, shut it down.

3. Turn on the computer. Windows automatically detects the Toshiba Multimedia Center and searches for device drivers.

4. When the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears, click the Cancel button.

5. Insert the Installation CD into your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. The installation utility should start automatically. If it does not, follow these steps:

1. Start Windows Explorer.

2. On the left pane, click the My Computer icon.

3. Right-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive icon, and then click AutoPlay.

6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the software installation.

7. When prompted, restart your computer.


Enabling DMA

For best performance, enable Direct Memory Access (DMA) for your storage devices. To enable DMA, follow the instructions below. For Windows XP, DMA should already be enabled (it's enabled by default).

1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel dialog box, double-click the System icon.

3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.

4. Click the Device Manager button.

5. Double-click the IDE ATA/ATAPI IDE Controllers icon. The available  IDE channels will appear.

6. Right-click the Primary IDE Channel icon, and then click Properties.

7. In the Properties dialog box, click the Advanced Settings tab.

8. Click the Transfer Mode box, and then click DMA if available.

9. Click the OK button.

10. Right-click the Secondary IDE Channel icon, click Properties, and then repeat steps 7 to 9.


Enabling Digital CD Playback, for audio CDs  

To listen to audio CDs, the Digital CD Playback setting must be enabled. If necessary, follow the instructions below. By default, Digital CD Playback is already enabled in Windows XP.

1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel dialog box, double-click the System icon.

3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.

4. Click the Device Manager button.

5. Double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon. Your computer's drives will be listed.

6. Right-click the drive icon, and then click Properties.

7. Click the Properties tab.

8. In the Digital CD Playback dialog box, click the Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device check box. Click the OK button.


Additional information

CD playback volume is controlled by the Wave/MP3 slider in the Surround Mixer application.

To play CDs from external CD / DVD drives, connect the analog audio out / Line Out jack on the external drive to the Line In jack of the Toshiba Multimedia Center.
