Issue

There may seem to be an echo (or a doubled, or delayed repetition of the sound) in the audio heard from the Qosmio's speakers (or headphone jack) -- when audio is fed through the Qosmio's AV input, at the rear of the computer. You may hear this apparent echo when the Qosmio is running Windows XP Media Center Edition (rather than the Qosmio Player), and the audio and video is coming from an external source, such as a video camera, a VHS player, or a DVD player.

Follow these steps to mute the line in audio channel:

1. Click the Start button, then Control Panel, then Sound and Audio Devices.

2. Click the Advanced button, in the Device Volume section.

3. Check the Mute box for the channel labeled Line In.

Only one audio stream will now be sent to the speakers.

Notes:

One connector is used for this AV input, which supports left and right line-level audio, as well as composite video. This 1/8" mini-jack connector is identified by a TV-shaped icon, with an arrow pointing toward it. Some of the documentation for the Qosmio family, including the Detailed Specs and the Product Tour, label this AV connector "Composite In".

An adapter cable for this connector is shipped with the Qosmio PCs. This adapter cable has a 1/8" mini-plug at one end, which attaches to the connector at the rear of the Qosmio. The other end of this adapter cable terminates in the traditional yellow, white, and red RCA plugs -- for composite video, left line-level audio, and right line-level audio, respectively.

The apparent echo in the audio is a result of there being two active audio streams: one coming directly from the AV input -- which arrives at the speakers immediately, and one which is processed by the Media Center software -- which arrives after a slight delay. The combination or these two stream results in audio that sounds echoed, or doubled.
