Information

Follow these instructions to copy files to (or 'burn') a data CD with the Drag'n Drop CD application that ships with several models of Toshiba notebook computers. Variations on the name of this app include Drag'n Drop CD+DVD.

1. Place a blank CD-R disc into the computer's CD / DVD drive. Close the Windows Auto Insert Notification, if it pops up (the window may be labeled "CD Drive").

2. Check to see if Drag'n Drop CD is already running. If it is, three icons should be visible at the lower right corner of the Windows Desktop. These icons should be labeled "Music", "Disc Backup", and "Data". If the icons are not visible, they may be hidden 'under' windows belonging to other apps. Try clicking the Show Desktop icon in the Windows Taskbar to reveal them. If Drag'n Drop CD is already running, then skip to step 4.

3. If Drag'n Drop CD is not already running, click the Windows Start button, click All Programs, click the Drag'n Drop CD folder, and finally click the icon for Drag'n Drop CD.

When the program starts, the abovementioned three icons should appear at the lower right corner of the Windows Desktop.

If no Drag'n Drop CD folder is present, the app may not have shipped on the computer.

4. Click the Windows Start button, and then click 'My Computer' (or launch Windows Explorer). If necessary, resize the My Computer / Explorer window so that it does not cover the Drag'n Drop CD icons.

5. Browse to the files or folders you wish to copy ('burn') to the CD.

6. Select the files you wish to copy to the CD (use the Shift and Ctrl keys to select more than one file in a folder), then drag them (click and hold) to the Drag'n Drop CD's Data icon. Release the mouse button to drop the files onto the icon.

If the Drag'n Drop 'Data Layout Window' is already open, you will not be able to drop files onto the Data icon. Drop them onto that window, instead.

7. Once you've finished dragging and dropping files, double click the Data icon. The Data Layout Window will appear.

8. In the Layout Window, click the Write button at lower right. This will start the 'burning' of the files to the CD.

Don't use the computer while the CD 'burning' is underway, so that none of the computer's resources are diverted to other tasks.

Wait until the "Creating Disc" message disappears, and until the "Finalizing" message on the Data icon changes to  "Finished".

9. The CD will probably be ejected automatically from the CD / DVD drive, once the files have been written. If the disc is not ejected, wait for the drive's light to go out, and then push the eject button on the drive.

10. Optionally, re-insert the CD, and use Windows Explorer (or 'My Computer') to verify that all of the files have been successfully written to it.
