The computer's display screen may blank out while the computer is being used.- Resolution
A standard feature of Toshiba portable computers turns the display screen off after both the mouse and keyboard have not been used for a while. The timeout interval can be set to 1 minute or to several minutes, or the feature may be disabled. This feature is designed to save power when the computer is running from its battery, but it may also be set to activate when the computer is running from its AC adapter.
Follow these steps to change setting for this display screen timeout feature:- Click the Windows Start menu.
- Select Control Panel (or Settings, then Control Panel).
- Double-click the icon for Toshiba Power Saver.
- The Power Saver program is organized into two sections, one for running from battery power and one for running from the AC adapter.
- Choose one of the Power Modes and click on the Details button in that section.
- In the new window that appears, click the Power Save Mode tab.
- Adjust the Turn Off Monitor slider to your preference. Click OK to accept the new setting.
- There are several Turn Off Monitor sliders in the battery-power section, each for a different battery-power level. For example, you could set the display "monitor" to turn off after ten minutes when the battery is fully-charged, but after one minute when the battery is nearly empty.
The Turn Off Monitor settings for battery power and AC power are independent, and may be set to different values.
The screen or monitor may also turn off / blank out if you have the Windows screensaver set to "Blank". Follow these steps to find out:
- Click the Windows Start menu.
- Select Control Panel (or Settings, then Control Panel).
- Double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Screen Saver tab.
- The selected screensaver may be "Blank". You can select a different screensaver, and you can change the "Wait" interval to a higher or lower value.
While playing a DVD movie, DVD player programs (WinDVD, for example) will prevent the display screen from turning off / blanking out, and will prevent the screensaver from being activated.
