Issue

The Motorola Surfboard cable modem may not assign a WAN IP address to the WRC-1000 wireless router, which prevents the WRC-1000 from connecting through the modem to the Internet. The WRC-1000 will still assign IP addresses to the computers connected to it, but those computers will not have access to the Internet.

  1. Using Internet Explorer, or another web browser, browse to the WRC-1000's administration utility webpage at http://192.168.10.1 and log on to it using the default user name "admin", and the default password "password".

  2. At the left of the browser window, click Overview.

  3. Check the WAN IP address field, in the "WAN Interface" section. It's labeled "IP Address/Subnet Mask".  If " 0.0.0.0" is displayed in this field, then it is very likely that the Motorola Surfboard modem has not yet provided a WAN IP address to the WRC-1000.

If you see an address other than 0.0.0.0 in the "IP Address/Subnet Mask" field, then the WRC-1000 is not experiencing the problem described in this bulletin. Be careful not to log out of the WRC-1000 administration utility/webpage. Instead, simply close the browser window.
Resolution

Follow these steps to restart the Motorola Surfboard cable modem and the WRC-1000:

  1. Disconnect the power cable from the Motorola Surfboard cable modem. Wait about 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cable. Wait for the modem's indicator lights to turn green.

  2. Browse to the WRC-1000's administration utility webpage at http://192.168.10.1 and log on to it using the default user name "admin", and the default password "password".

  3. Navigate to System, under Configuration.

  4. Click the "reboot" button. Click OK when asked for confirmation. A message stating "APPLY, Submitting Settings... Please wait for 31 Seconds" will be displayed.

  5. Once the reboot sequence has finished, the Overview Configuration page will open in the administration utility webpage. Check the "IP Address/Subnet Mask" field, in the "WAN Interface" section. It should now show a valid IP address -- something other than 0.0.0.0. If so, try browsing to a website to verify that you now have a connection to the Internet.

  6. If 0.0.0.0 is still displayed in the "IP Address/Subnet Mask" field, then there may be another problem preventing access to the Internet. Try updating the WRC-1000's firmware.
