Issue

Sonic Solutions' PrimeTime DVD app may refuse to create a DVD, issuing the following error msg instead:

"Could not complete the last command because the data rate of this file is too high for DVD. You must replace the file with one of a lower data rate. DVD ERR, -20404"

Resolution

This error can occur if you try to burn a DVD in which the source file was recorded (in Media Center Edition, or otherwise) using the DVR-MS format at the highest quality setting, which yields files with data rates (bit rates) of up to 30Mbps -- too high for any of the DVD formats, which support data rates up to 9.8Mbps.

Select a lower-quality setting for the source file in Media Center, or elsewhere.
