Issue

This bulletin explains how to install the Toshiba Mail Speech application (part of the Toshiba Text-to-Speech for Pocket PC software suite) on the Toshiba Pocket PC e400 / e405.

Resolution

First, install the Toshiba Text-to-Speech for Pocket PC software suite from the Companion CD:

  1. Connect your Pocket PC e400 / e405 to your computer.
  2. Establish an ActiveSync session.
  3. Start the Text-to-Speech installation by running the Setup program.
  4. Watch for indications of any additional steps required to complete the installation.

Start the Mail Speech application:

  1. Open your e-mail Inbox, and select the mail account from which you wish to have messages read aloud.
  2. Tap Start, Programs, then Mail Speech. Mail Speech will start speaking aloud the message from the header information of the unread e-mail list. Note that the currently read / spoken phrase is highlighted.

You may find the following navigation controls useful:

  • Play: Starts reading aloud the selected e-mail.
  • Pause: Stops reading. Tapping Play again causes the app to continue reading the text.
  • Stop: Causes Mail Speech to stop reading the text aloud.
  • Exit: Closes the Mail Speech application.

Tap the Tools menu item for the following special functions:

  • Refresh: Refreshes the status of the e-mail database.
  • Settings: Starts the Speech Settings.
  • Exit: Closes the program.
  • About: Displays the version information screen.

Tap and hold selected words to display the pop-up Copy menu.

Error message note:

If you see "Internal error occurred. Error code FF020001." while opening the Mail Speech software, please reset the PDA, and reinstall the Mail Speech software.
