How to Record Using an External Microphone

Issue

You may be unable to record through an external microphone.

Resolution

Toshiba Satellite P10/15 models don't have a built in microphone, so you'll need to use an external microphone to record voices or other sounds.  Using an external mic requires just a bit of additional configuration.

  1. Double click the speaker on the taskbar or right click and select open.
  2. Take the check mark out of mute all in volume control.
  3. Go to options to properties and under recording put a check mark in Microphones and then click OK.
  4. Go to options to properties and under playback put a check mark in Microphones and then click OK.
  5. This will give you a advanced button under microphones make sure there is no mute and select advanced.
  6. This will bring up Advanced Control for Microphone- make sure that "1 Mic 2 select" is not checked and the next box "2 MC boost" is not checked. They should not be checked by default.
  7. You should now be able to record and playback with an external microphone
