MSN Cannot Download Media Center's TV Guide By Modem

Issue

If you have a Microsoft Network (MSN) dial up Internet account and try to download or update Media Center's TV Guide, you may not be able to connect to the Internet.

Resolution
  1. Create a new manual dial-up connection, call it anything BUT do not have the name contain "MSN".
  2. Use the number that the MSN client uses. You can find this in the Connection Settings of the MSN client.
  3. Set your username to :MSN/ .
  4. Enter your password.
  5. IMPORTANT! Enable the option "Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer".
  6. Now go through Media Center's Settings/General/Set Up Internet Connection.
  7. Select the option "Connect to the Internet and download", and select "Dial-up or Broadband with username and password".
  8. Finally, select the connection that you just created.

NOTE: If you upgrade to MSN 9.0, you should not have this issue.
