How to run the Magnia Server MegaRaid SCSI Controller Configuration Utility using the EMP

Synonym - EMP, E.M.P., or Emergency Management Port

PRE-REQUISITES:

  • The Server BIOS setup for EMP, Console Redirection and modem access use if applicable.
  • The Server BIOS EMP Password if so configured.
  • The Server modem’s phone number if applicable.
  • Availability of customer system administrator.
  • The local Win95 or WinNT workstation properly configured to use a modem or direct cable connection.
  • The local Win95 or WinNT workstation having the EMP Console application installed.
Procedure

1. Start the remote console application on the local workstation and connect to the Server.

2.  Have customer system administrator insert the Toshiba Server MS-DOS Boot Diskette into drive a:.

3. Have the customer system administrator to perform a system reset through the server operating system.

POTENTIAL DATA LOSS - CAUTION

Because the EMP is isolated from the Server’s OS, there is only one way to determine if users are currently accessing the system. Having the customer’s system administrator verify the server can be powered off or reset is the only way to determine if users are accessing the system. If the local workstation EMP Console application power off or reset options are used in EMP mode while active users are connected to the customer’s server; data loss will occur as these application options take effect immediately when invoked.

4. Once the customer system administrator has reset the server, the local workstation console application will switch to redirect mode.

5. Enter the Server BIOS Setup Utility from the Redirect window and change the "EMP Access Mode" to "Disabled" to force only EMP Redirect operational mode.

6. Save and exit from the Server BIOS Setup Utility and proceed with re-booting off of the Server MS-DOS diskette.

7. Once the server has booted to the a: prompt, have the customer remove the Server MS-DOS diskette from a: and insert the Toshiba AMI Megaraid Drivers & Utilities for MS-Dos diskette into drive a:.

8. Perform a cd command to the a:\dos directory.

9. Execute the Megaraid Configuration Utility by running megaconf.exe at the prompt.

10. Use the MegaRAID Configuration Utility as needed.

11. Exit the MegaRaid Utility to the a:\ prompt.

12. Have the customer’s system administrator remove the diskette from drive a:\ and reboot the server from the console by pressing the <Ctrl><Alt><Del> keys.

13. As the system is rebooting, enter back into the Server BIOS Setup Utility and restore the BIOS setting of EMP Mode Access back to "Always Enabled" to allow EMP and Redirect modes of operation.

14. Save and exit the Server BIOS Setup Utility and the system will reboot.
