Issue

The 10/100 Network Dock II (PA3007U) may be used as a service replacement for the 10/100 Network Dock (PA2722U). The original the 10/100 Network Dock (PA2722U) included a built-in Intel LAN card while the newer the 10/100 Network Dock II (PA3007U) includes a built-in 3COM LAN card.

If this substitution is made 10/100, network drivers for the new 3COM card will need to be installed before the system will be able to access the network. Note that after loading the 3COM drivers the system will be able to work with either version of the Network Dock. On the Portege 7000CT and 7010 it may be necessary to upgrade the system BIOS before loading the 3COM drivers.

Procedure

To successfully upgrade your Portege 7000, 7010, 7020 for use with the 10/100 Network Dock II (PA3007U) using the 3COM LAN card you need to verify and update your Portege’s system BIOS if needed and then install the 3COM network card drivers.

Verify the revision of BIOS (Update if required)
The first step requires verifying the version of BIOS your Portege is currently using and then updating the BIOS if needed.

    d. Check the BIOS version, which is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Ensure that the BIOS revision is greater than the version listed in the table below.
  2. If the system BIOS is equal to the listed revisions, the BIOS will need to be upgraded. BIOS Diskettes have been provided with the 10/100 Network Dock II. If a BIOS update is not required, go to the 3COM Network Driver installation step.
