Issue

When attempting to assign a static IP address to a specific network adapter with multiple network adapters installed under Windows NT Workstation 4 using multiple hardware profiles, you will receive the following error message:
“IP addresses must be unique for each network card. Remove the duplicate
IP address from the IP addresses list in the Advanced dialogue box”

Resolution

You must disable the bindings for the TCP/IP Protocol to the network adapters you are not using under the current hardware profile.

  1. Click on the Windows NT Workstation start menu and then select settings and choose control panel.
  2. In Control Panel, select the Network Icon and then select Bindings.
  3. Next to Show Binding For, select All Protocols and then click on the + sign to expand the list of network adapters using the TCP/IP Protocol.
  4. Highlight the network adapters that you will not be using in the current hardware profile and click on the disable button.
  5. Reboot the computer and you will now be able to assign the static IP address to the preferred Network card under the current hardware profile.

COMMENTS:
This enables the user to assign a single IP address to be used under different hardware profiles using different network cards for each profile.
