Information

Note: This Technical Note assumes that you have performed the configuration steps in the Technical Note called "How to Setup Wireless Connectivity to a Toshiba Wireless LCD Projector under Windows 2000 Professional - 98080570" and have successful wireless communication in Ad-Hoc or Peer-to-Peer mode.

  1. Configuring the projector from Ad-hoc to Infrastructure mode.
    a. Double-click the Projector Configuration Tool icon on the Windows 2000 desktop or click Start > Programs > Toshiba Data Projector > Projector Configuration Tool.
    b. Click the Search button. "Search in progress. Please wait." will be displayed in the Hint area. Within a few seconds "n Projector(s) are found. Select Projector and acquire data." will be displayed. If "Projector was not found" is displayed, check that the projector is plugged into a known good wall outlet and both the On LED on the projector and the power LED on the Toshiba Gold Wireless PC card are lit up.
    c. Available projectors within range will be listed in the Projector Selection drop-down. Select the MAC (Media Access Control) address of the projector whose settings that you want to change. "Succeeded in retrieving data" will be displayed in the Hint area once the settings of the projector have been retrieved. If "Failed in retrieving data" is displayed in the Hint area, reselect the MAC address of the projector from the Projector Selection drop-down. Note: If there are multiple wireless projectors in range, there will be several MAC addresses listed. There are two options for viewing the MAC address without having to remove the PC card from the projector and looking at the label on the back of the card. The first is by selecting PC Card as the input device and provided there is no wireless connection being made, this information will be displayed automatically. The second way is by pressing the Menu button twice with PC card selected as the input device.
    d. Change the settings on this page to the desired settings. Select "Infrastructure" from the Communications Mode drop-down. Change the SSID (Wireless network name) to match the SSID of the access point on the wireless network you will be using. Change the Projector Name if desired. You may want to do this if you have more than one Toshiba wireless LCD projector within range to make it easier to identify the projectors. Change the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway to match that of the LAN (Local Area Network). This information can be obtained dynamically if the DHCP option is set to "Used" (there must be a DHCP server on the LAN) or entered manually if set to "Not used". Select the Encryption type, if desired, and enter a Key. The Encryption type and Encryption Key must be the same as that on the access point. Toshiba wireless LCD projectors only support the entry of the Key as an alphanumeric value, rather than hexadecimal. As alphanumeric is not standardized amongst the various vendors of Wireless cards, it is not recommended that encryption be used unless the wireless card used in the computer(s) are based on the Agere/Lucent chipset. The Toshiba Wireless Gold PC card supports up to 128-bit encryption.
    e. Click the Settings button to write the changes to the projector. Before doing this, make sure that the settings you entered in step d above are correct. The message "Data transmission has started" will be displayed in the Hint area as the changes are being sent to the projector. The message "Setting completed" will be displayed once the settings are saved. In the event that the save failed, verify the settings and click the Settings button again.
    f. Click Exit to close the Projector Configuration Tool.
    g. Click Yes to confirm.
