Issue

When a CD is inserted into the CD-ROM tray and the tray is closed, the CD-ROM drive does not automatically access the CD unless the user forces it to.

COMMENTS:
Windows provides a CD-ROM option called Auto Insert Notification which is typically set by default. When this option is enabled Windows polls the CD-ROm drive occasionally to see if a CD disk has been inserted into the drive and if so automatically starts it. If this option is not checked then the CD-ROM doesn't automatically start.

ALSO:
Several Toshiba Models also included a feature called Auto System Shutdown which have Auto Insert Notification disabled by default because Auto System Shutdown will not operate properly with the constant checking of the CD-ROM drive which occurs with the Auto Insert feature enabled.

Resolution

Enable Auto Insert Notification though CD-ROM Properties/Settings:

  1. Right Click on My Computer Select Properties and click on the Device Manager tab.
  2. Double Click on the CD-ROM drive Icon.
  3. Double Click on the CD-ROM Model.
  4. Click on the Settings Tab
  5. Put a check on Auto Insert Notification
  6. Click OK.
