- Issue
On occasion, fan thermal activity may increase due to high CPU utilization. This may result in a decrease in system performance.
- Resolution
To avoid this behavior, improvements to the thermal control system has been implemented. In addition CPU frequency reduction (throttling) will be improved.
Please follow the changes described in the procedure section, to apply a new thermal control table and reducing CPU throttling.
- Procedure
How to Enable the Thermal Control Alternative Mode from the System BIOS & within Windows
BIOS Method: On the unit without TOSHIBA Eco Utility or TOSHIBA Settings (Centennial App) installed:
- Install BIOS v3.30 or later.
- Restart the unit and access the BIOS by pressing F2 key. Check if BIOS V3.30 or later has been successfully applied.
- Next, select Power Management on the left side in the BIOS setup. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter BIOS Power Management.
- Make sure to select the following values:
- Thermal Control Alternative Mode: Enabled
- Battery Save Mode: User Setting
- Processing Speed: High
- CPU Sleep Mode: Enabled (no change)
- Cooling Method: Power Saver
- Press F10 (Save and Exit) to complete the change from the BIOS Settings.
Windows 10 Method: On the unit with TOSHIBA Eco Utility or TOSHIBA Settings (Centennial App) installed:
- Install BIOS v3.30 or later.
- Enter Advanced Power Settings from Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Power Options
- Next, click on "Change plan settings" on the power plan you are using.
- Select "Change advanced power settings". A second window showing the advanced power options will pop up.
- Expand "TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings" and select for both, "On battery" and "Plugged in" option "Power saver". Click "OK" to apply the settings.
- Reboot the operating system once again to make sure, all changes have been successfully applied. As of now, a reduced fan activity and minimized CPU frequency throttling take place.
-
If no improvement can be observed, please check again if all steps have been correctly adopted and for example, no high load of the system causing a necessary cooling of the unit.
Notes:
- The Thermal Control Alternative Mode option is only available in BIOS v3.30 or later.
- If TOSHIBA Eco Utility or TOSHIBA Settings is installed, the Thermal Control Alternative Mode can be enabled from the Power Options without BIOS v3.30 installed.
- On the unit with TOSHIBA Eco Utility/TOSHIBA Settings installed and BIOS v3.30 updated, the Cooling Method settings in Windows will take effect and supersede the Cooling Method settings in BIOS Settings.
