Using Safe Mode for Troubleshooting
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers in a minimal operation mode. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. This can be helpful if you are having problems with your computer that may be software related and need to troubleshoot.
Use the following procedure to start your computer in Safe Mode:
With the laptop off, press the power button.
Begin to tap the F8 key.
If you tap too rapidly or start too early, you may get an error or hear beeping.
Wait for the "Advanced Boot Options" screen to be displayed.
If it doesn't display, you may shut down the computer and try again.
On the "Advanced Boot Options" screen, use the up and down arrow keys to select "Safe Mode."
Press ENTER.
