Windows 8 Desktop Mode

Desktop Mode is similar in functionality as Windows 7 and earlier operating systems.
To get to Desktop mode, locate the "Desktop" app tile on the Start screen and selectÂ

With the exception of the Start Menu
, the functionality is similar to Windows 7. Remember that you can use the Start screen in place of a Start Menu. Desktop mode programs can still be launched from Start screen.
For ease of access to frequently used programs, right-click on the icon of an open program on the taskbar (the bar at the bottom of the screen) and select "Pin this program to the taskbar." This will place a shortcut to the program on the taskbar.
