Question
After I wake my laptop from sleep, the Wi-Fi doesn't connect. How can I fix this?
Answer
This could be related to Windows attempting to save power. First we'll check the device settings in Device Manager, and then we'll consider the power settings.
Device Manager: Power Saving
- Open Device Manager by typing "Device Manager" in the Start Menu's search field and pressing ENTER.
- Then expand Network adapters.
- Double-click the wireless device.
- Change to the Power Management tab.
- Ensure the box labeled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is NOT checked.
Power Settings
If that doesn't fix it, we'll consider the power settings. You can either change your current power plan or change to the "High performance" plan.
Make changes to the current power plan:
- In the Start Menu's search field, type "Power Options" and press enter.
- Next to the currently selected power plan, click "Change plan settings."
- Then click "Change advanced power settings."
- In the window that opens, expand "Wireless Adapter Settings" and "Power Saving Mode."
- Then ensure both "On battery" and "Plugged in" are set to "Maximum Performance."
Switch to the "High Performance" plan:
- In the Start Menu's search field, type "Power Options" and press enter.
- Click "High performance."
