TOSHIBA Flash Cards is a utility that replaces the "Hot Key Utility". Pressing a specific key together with the Fn key executes the function assigned to the key (hot key function).

FLASH CARDS

IMPORTANT: Depending on the computer configuration, some hotkeys will operate differently and some may not be available at all.

  • On older Toshiba notebooks, the user is required to hold down the FN key while tapping the 'F' numbered key to get a certain function.
  • The new Satellite 800 series computers (C800, L800, P800 and U800) use only the 'F' numbered keys without using the FN key to get the function in most cases.

ODD Eject or power On/Off

Eject the ODD or switch the ODD power supply to On or Off. (The supported features depends on the configuration of the computer.)

Mute On/Off

Switches mute to On or Off.

Keyboard backlight

On/Off Switches the backlight of keyboard to On or Off.

Fn+F1

Execution of instant security

Places computer into lock state.

Fn+F2

Change of power plan

Changes the power plan.

Fn+F3 Sleep Changes to the sleep state.

Change of display unit

Changes the display unit such as to an external monitor.

Changes the screen brightness to dark (F6) or to light (F7).

Switches each type of wireless device to On or Off.

TouchPad Enable/Disable

Enables or disables TouchPad.

Fn+F10

Cursor Overlay

Turn on/off Cursor Overlay.

Fn+F11

Numeric Overlay

Turn on/off Numeric Overlay.

Fn+Space

Resolution switch

Switches the resolution among Zoom1, Zoom2, and Normal.

Pressing a specific key together with the Fn key executes the function assigned to the key (hot key function). When a hot key is pressed or the mouse cursor is moved to the end of the screen, the cards are displayed in a row at the end of the screen.

When a key to which a hot key was assigned is pressed or when one of the cards lined up at the end of the screen is selected, the card is displayed as shown in the following example.

The functions that the user can select from this card are presented with the subitems displayed with the card. When the user selects a subitem, the function of the selected item is executed. A hot key or mouse can be used to select an item.

Selecting an item using the keyboard

While pressing down the Fn key, press the hot key repeatedly to move along the subitems that can be selected. The function of the subitem that is selected when the user releases the Fn key is executed.

  • When [F6/F7] is pressed, only selecting a subitem without releasing the Fn key executes the corresponding function.

Selecting an item with the mouse

Moving the mouse cursor can move along the subitems that can be selected. The function of the subitem that is selected when the left mouse button is clicked.

  • When [F6/F7] is pressed, moving the slider executes the function.

SETTINGS FOR FLASH CARDS

Some advanced functions can be enabled using the Settings for Flash Cards.

Opening the Flash Cards utility settings

  1. Click the Start menu.
  2. Enter "Flash" into the search field.
  3. Click "Flash Cards" in the search results.
  4. Setting for Flash Cards will open.
  5. Make changes as desired and click "apply" to set or "Cancel" to exit without changing settings.

Functions:

  • Enable/Disable Flash Cards. If the checkbox "Disable all function keys" is selected, TOSHIBA Flash Cards will be disabled, and the hotkeys will not work.
  • Change the Flash Cards position. You can choose where to show the Flash Cards, at the top of the screen or at the bottom of the screen.
  • Mouse operation. When the mouse operation is enabled, there will be a border of Flash Cards shown at the top/bottom of the screen. Move the mouse over the border for a while, the Flash Cards will be shown and then you can operate them with the mouse.
  • Bring the Flash Cards border to the top. Checking the "Keep the cards on top of other windows" will bring the Flash Cards border to the topmost layer.
