ECO CHARGE MODE

The Eco Charge Mode increases the battery life cycles by not charging the battery to full capacity. This mode is recommended for users who most often use the PC with the AC adapter. The battery life per full charge is shorter in this mode. This mode is enabled/disabled through BIOS in most newer Dynabook and Toshiba laptops, and through the eco charge application on earlier laptops.

ENABLING / DISABLING ECO CHARGE MODE

First Check BIOS for the eco charge mode:

  1. Press and hold the SHIFT, key while clicking the Shutdown option in Windows to perform a full shutdown
  2. Enter the BIOS Setup Utility by pressing and holding down F2 at power ON
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Select System Configuration
  5. Look for Battery Charge Mode or eco Charge Mode and select enable
  6. Select F10 and select Yes to Save and Exit

If you did not find Battery Charge Mode or eco Charge Mode in BIOS update to the latest BIOS available for your laptop and repeat the steps above.

If the Battery Charge Mode or eco Charge Mode is still not available:

WINDOWS 7

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. In the search field type Battery.
  3. Click on the Battery Manager search return to open.
  4. When the TOSHIBA Battery Manager window opens, select eco charge mode (default is normal charge mode).
  5. Select Apply. Eco Charge Mode is now enabled.
  6. You will be instructed to discharge the battery to approximately 50% at least once without plugging in the AC adapter. Failure to do so will result in eco charge mode not being enabled, and the battery life cycles will not increase.

WINDOWS 8

  1. On the Start screen, press the Windows + C keys to open the charms bar.
  2. Select Search from the charms bar.
  3. In the search field type eco.
  4. Under Apps select eco Utility to open.
  5. When the eco Utility window opens, select Battery Life Cycle tab on the left.
  6. Turn eco Charge Mode ON or OFF as desired (default is Off).
  7. Select Close to set the option selected and close the eco Utility.
  8. After selecting Close you will be instructed to discharge the battery to approximately 50% at least once without plugging in the AC adapter. Failure to do so will result in eco charge mode not being enabled, and the battery life cycles will not increase.
