
Windows 8 Reader App for PDF and XPS files

You can use the Reader app, which comes with Windows 8 and Windows RT, to open and view PDF and XPS files.
NOTE: If viewing a PDF file on a web site using a browser, the file will open within the browser itself. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will require a separate plug-in to view PDF files, Internet Explorer does not require a plug-in.
Open a file:
NOTE: If a 3rd party PDF viewer is installed, the Reader App may no longer open files.
From the file
- Double-click the PDF or XPS file you wish to open.
- The Reader App will open the file for viewing.
From the Reader App
- Open the Reader app from the start screen.
- Select Browse.
- Navigate to the location of the PDF or XPS files.
- Select the file you wish to open.
- The Reader App will open the file for viewing.
Close a file:
- With the file open in the Reader app, swipe up from the bottom edge. (If you're using a mouse, right-click within the app.)
- Tap or click More.
- Tap or click Close file.
