Without the PIN code or password, there is no way to unlock the Thrive without performing a factory reset. Note that this will remove all settings, data, documents, and applications from the tablet. Apps purchased from Google through the Play Store can be redownloaded (although settings and data will be lost) if the same Google account is used.

To reset the Thrive, perform the following steps.

1. Turn off the tablet.
2. Press and hold the "+" on the volume key.
3. While continuing to hold the "+" volume key, press and hold the power button.
4. Once the tablet starts and displays three icons, let go of the buttons.
5. Using the volume key, select the middle icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it.
6. Press the power button to choose that icon.
7. On the next screen, use the volume key to select the "wipe data/factory reset." The exact phrasing might be different on some versions. Again, note that this will remove all settings, data, documents, and applications from the tablet.
8. On the next screen, select "Yes" to confirm.
9. Once this is done, select "reboot system now" to reboot the tablet. When this is done, the tablet will show the initial setup screens.
