
DVD drive is not recognized by the system after upgrading to Windows 8

If the TOSHIBA Upgrade Assistant (TUA) is not used to identify conflicting programs and utilities prior to upgrading to Windows 8 it is possible to have the CD/DVD drive not appear after the upgrade is complete.
As a possible remedy, perform one or both of the below procedures.
1. Uninstall Programs
Uninstall the following programs and reboot your laptop following the instructions below:
- TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator
- TOSHIBA Disc Creator
- At the START screen type "Uninstall".
- Under "Settings" select "Uninstall a program".
- Locate the programs shown above, right-click and select "Uninstall".
- After uninstalling both programs, reboot your computer.
- The CD/DVD drive should now be shown.
- If the CD/DVD drive is not shown, uninstall the drivers as described in the next procedure.
2. Uninstall Drivers
Uninstall the CD/DVD driver and reboot your laptop following the instructions below:
- At the START screen type "Device Manager"
- Under "Settings" select Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > right click on the device displayed > select Uninstall.
- After the driver uninstalls, reboot your computer. The driver will install automatically when the computer restarts.
- The CD/DVD drive should now be shown.
- Export Control and EULA
- Use of any software made available for download from this system constitutes your acceptance of the Export Control Terms and the terms in the Dynabook end-user license agreement both of which you can view before downloading any such software.
