If your computer is having problems with a recently installed device or other hardware, try using the built-in Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common issues and makes sure that any new device or hardware attached to your computer was installed correctly

Windows 7

To open and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click on "Control Panel" to open.
  3. In the search box in the upper right corner of the Control Panel window, type "troubleshooter". Click "Troubleshooting" when displayed.
  4. Under "Hardware and Sound", click "Configure a device". You may be prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. The "Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter" window will open.
  5. Select "Next" to run the troubleshooter.
  6. If any issues are found you will be prompted to "Apply this fix". This may occur numerous times depending on ittues found.
  7. When finished, the items able to be fixed as well as any items that could not be fixed will be listed. You can click to "Explore additional options" to continue troubleshooting any issues with items not fixed.
