Q. Can the Storage Utilities software that came with my SSD be used on other SSDs?

A. No, using the utilites that came with your SSD cannot be used with other SSD's


Q. What are the supported SSDs?

A. Storage Utilities is supporting the following SSD models.
TOSHIBA SSD Q300 Series
Model Number on the label (the part number printed on the bottom of packaging box):
HDTS712 (HDTS712*ZSTA), HDTS724 (HDTS724*ZSTA), HDTS748 (HDTS748*ZSTA), HDTS796 (HDTS796*ZSTA), HDTS812 (HDTS812*ZSTA), HDTS824 (HDTS824*ZSTA), HDTS848 (HDTS848*ZSTA), HDTS896 (HDTS896*ZSTA)

TOSHIBA SSD Q300 Pro Series
Model Number on the label (the part number printed on the bottom of packaging box):
HDTS412 (HDTS412*ZSTA), HDTS425 (HDTS425*ZSTA), HDTS451 (HDTS451*ZSTA)

Note: An asterisk mark (*) is different for each destination.


Q. What OS does the Storage Utilities will work on?

A. Windows® 7, Windows® 8, Windows® 8.1, Windows® 10 in 32 and 64 bit environments.


Q. Is it necessary to connect to the internet in order to use the Storage Utilities?

A. You do not need to connect to the internet in order to use the basic function of the Storage Utilities. However, we recommend connection all the time, because following function need to connect to the internet.

Q. Does the Storage Utilities work for SSDs that are part of RAID configurations?

A. Storage Utilities works with single SSDs, but does not work for SSDs that are part of RAID configurations.


Q. What does the meter displayed on "Status" of Drive Information menu do?

A. Based on the indications of the SSD endurance, the status shall be determined either to normal, caution, or warning. The pointer of the meter indicates relative change of the status.
The indicator of meter shows green when in normal range, and yellow when in in the caution range, and red when in the warning range.


Q. How should I back up the SSD which needs to be rescued?

A. Create the bootable media to USB flash drive or CD/DVD in Supplementary Tools menu. Boot your PC from the bootable media, and open Supplementary Tools menu of Storage Utilities on Linux® OS, and also you can use Drive Backup function.

Q. Can I erase data on the primary drive (bootable drive)?

A. The Secure Erase on Windows® OS cannot be run the primary drive (bootable drive). However, the Secure Erase on Linux® OS can be run the primary drive (bootable drive).

Q. What is the size requirement for creating a bootable USB using the Supplementary Tools menu?

A. Creating the bootable USB requires the capacity of about 250 MB. Prepare USB flash drive of 256MB or above to creating of the bootable USB.


Q. Can I select a non-supported SSD as the destination drive for Drive Backup?

A. If destination drive has the capacity equal to or more than source drive, non-supported SSD is possible. However, the status of drive is not displayed.
Please use normal drive or new drive as the destination drive.


Q. "SSDOverProv.dat" file has been created. What is this?

A. "SSDOverProv.dat" will be created in the root of the partition when you allocated spare area in Over Provisioning.
Usually, there is a way to create a spare area by reducing the maximum LBA, but Toshiba method is not necessary to reduce the size of the file system and move the data. So you can allocate the spare area easy and safe, and fast.


Q. Are Power-on hours during DevSleep included  in Power-on Hours Count (ID:09h) of SMART attribute?

A. TOSHIBA Q300 Series include power-on hours during DevSleep. TOSHIBA Q300 Pro Series do not include power-on hours during DevSleep.


Q. Is unexpected power loss during DevSleep included in Unexpected Power Loss Count (ID:C0h) of SMART attribute?

A. TOSHIBA Q300 Series include unexpected power loss during DevSleep. TOSHIBA Q300 Pro Series do not include unexpected power loss during DevSleep.
