Replacing your existing internal hard disc drive with a new internal Toshiba hard drive.
- Resolution
Follow the steps below to replace your existing hard drive with your new Toshiba drive.
- Procedure
Important: Before beginning, you should back up all of your data even if you plan on migrating your data from your existing drive to your new drive.
You will need the following items:
- Your new Toshiba drive
- A bridge cable (USB to SATA) to connect to your PC and your new drive. This will allow you to connect your new drive to your PC while your original drive is still in use.
- Data Migration software if you are migrating data. You can visit the NTI website to obtain and purchase data migration software. (http://www.nticorp.com/en/us/product)
- Windows Operating System (OS) if you have a purchased copy. NOTE: If you are not migrating data skip steps 1 - 4. Install the OS after installing your new Toshiba drive.
- Install the data migration software.
- Connect your new drive to your PC using the bridge cable. Connect the USB end to your PC and the SATA end to your new drive.
- Run the data migration software and migrate your data.
- When your data migration is complete, install your new drive.
- Turn off your PC and unplug all cables and connected accessories.
- Access the hard drive on your PC. Refer to the Owner's Manual if you need help accessing the hard drive.
- Remove the existing drive from your PC. Note: You may need to remove one or more screws securing your existing drive.
- Install your new Toshiba drive by reversing the previous step. Be sure to secure your new drive.
- Once your new drive is secure, close your PC and reinstall the covers you removed in order to access the drive.
- Power on your computer and continue normal use.
