FN (Function) Key Mapping for Toshiba Notebooks

Issue

Current Toshiba notebooks utilize one of two FN key mappings. These keys have both primary and secondary funtionality. The primary functionality is represented by larger white icons or text while the secondary functionality is represented by smaller gray icons or text. 

Resolution

Current Satellite (and Tecra C50-B) FN key mapping: To activate the primary functions of the individual keys the user does NOT have to press both the FN key and the specific key shown.

This TOSHIBA function key displays the help file.
This TOSHIBA function key decreases the screen brightness.
This TOSHIBA function key increases the screen brightness.
This TOSHIBA function key cycles through the display options and highlights the available options.

 

 

This TOSHIBA function key enables/disables the touch pad. 

   

 

 

Media buttons

This TOSHIBA function key allows you to restart playing the current track or go to the previous track.
This TOSHIBA function key allows you to start playing or pause the media currently playing.
This TOSHIBA function key allows you to go to the next track.
This TOSHIBA function key decreases the volume.
This TOSHIBA function key increases the volume.
This TOSHIBA function key enables/disables volume mute.
This TOSHIBA function key enables/disables the wireless antenna.

 

Tecra/Portege FN key mapping: To activate the secondary functions of the individual keys the user must press both the FN key and the specific key shown.
