The TOSHIBA Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool is designed to test the cooling performance of the fan on your laptop which may be affected by the operating environment and frequenbcy of use.
If not pre-installed, the Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool may be able to be downloaded and installed for your laptop model at support.toshiba.com. Links to the Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool may be located through TOSHIBA Desktop Assist under "Support & Recovery" or directly on the Start screen.
NOTE: Not all models support this feature so it may not be availble for download when searching.
Opening the Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool
Windows 7 (Windows 8 upgraded from an earlier version of Windows)
- Click on the Start menu.
- Type "Cooling" into the search field.
- Under the search returns, select "Cooling Checker".
- The "Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool" will open.
NOTE: Windows 7 and Windows 8 (upgraded from an earlier version of Windows) Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool windows look similar and function the same.
Windows 8 pre-installed
- From the home screen, press the "Windows+C" keys to open the charms bar.
- Tap "Search".
- Type "Cooling" into the search field.
- Under "Apps" search returns, select "Cooling Checker".
- The "Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool" will open.
Running the Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool
NOTE: Operation of the Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool between Windows 7 and Windows 8 are similar. Windows 8 screens are shown in this procedure.
- Select the "Diagnosis" button.
- In the next window read the information provided explaining the operation and procautions while operating the tool, select the "Next" button.
- Read the confirmation in the next window and select "Start" to begin diagnosis.
- The diagnosis will begin. This may take a while to run. While the diagnosis is running, please adhere to the following:
- DO NOT remove the AC adapter
- DO NOT close the display
- DO NOT remove the battery
- DO NOT touch the mouse or the keyboard
- Once the diagnosis is complete, a new window will appear indicating if there are problems or not.
- Selecting "Save Result" allows you to save a log file detailing the results of the diagnostic check.
- To exit the tool, select the "Close" button.
