- How do I play a DVD movie on my television?
- Procedure
ITEMS REQUIRED:
- A television with a separate composite video and audio input jacks
- The RCA conversion cable that came with your Satellite
280X. This cable is approximately five feet in length
with a male mini jack connector at one end and three male
RCA connectors on the other end. The Yellow RCA connector
is for video and the white and red RCA connectors are for
left and right audio channels respectively.
SETUP:
- Plug the male mini jack connector of the RCA conversion cable that came with your Satellite 280X into the Video/audio jack located on the right-hand side of the Satellite 280X. Please refer to page twenty six of the Satellite 280X User's Guide for the location of the Video/audio jack.
- Connect the yellow RCA video connector to the composite video input jack on your television.
- Connect the red and white RCA connectors to the audio
input on your television or stereo receiver. If your
television has more than one set of video/audio inputs,
be sure to connect the audio and video cables to the same
set of video/audio inputs. If your television is only
equipped with only one audio channel input (mono), plug
the white audio connector into the audio input.
Reference: Please refer to you stereo receiver documentation for instructions on connecting to your stereo receiver.
Special Audio Note: You will not be able to hear the movie in Dolby digital 5.1 sound.
- Turn on your television and select the appropriate video/audio input.
- Turn on the computer.
- Right click on an open area of your desktop and select "Properties". This will display your "Display Properties" window.
- Click on the "Settings tab"
- The "Screen area" should be set to "1024 by 768 pixels". If it is already set to 1024 by 768 proceed to step 15.
- Slide the Screen Area slider bar until the setting reads "1024 by 768 pixels".
- . Click on "Apply", then "OK".
- . A "Display Properties" window will appear
stating; Windows will now resize your desktop.
This could take a few seconds, during which your screen might flicker. If Windows does not reappear correctly, wait 15 seconds, and your original settings will be restored. - Click on "OK".
- A "Monitor Settings" windows will appear stating; You resized your desktop. Do you want to keep this setting?
- Click on "yes".
- If you want to show the DVD movie on the television and
internal LCD display simultaneously, perform the
following steps. Otherwise, proceed to step 16.
a. Click on the "Advanced" button. The "S3 Inc. Savage/IX w/MV Properties" window will appear.
b. Click on the "S3 DuoView+" tab.
c. Under "Controller Options" select "Dual controller".
d. Click on "Apply".
e. A "S3 DuoView+" window appears stating "Your settings will now be tested. This could take a few seconds, during which your screen might flicker. If the output doesn't appear correctly, wait 15 seconds, and previous settings will be restored." Click on "OK".
d. Another "S3 DuoView+" Window will appear stating "New mode was set. Do you want to keep this setting?" Click on "Yes". You will have 15 seconds to confirm you want to keep these changes before the previous setting will be restored.
e. At the "S3 Inc. Savage/IX w/MV Properties" window, click on "OK".
f. At the "Display Properties" window, click on "OK".
- Click on "Start", select "Programs", "Mediamatics DVDExpress" and double click on "Mediamatics DVD Player".
- The DVDExpress user interface will be displayed. In the lower left hand corner of the user interface there will be a button with a box inside and a check mark inside the box. This is the DVD options button. Click on the DVD options button.
- The DVD Options window will appear. Click on the Display
tab. Place a check in the white box to the left of "TV-out
Mode" by clicking on it. Then click on "Apply"
and then on "OK". This will enable the TV-out
Mode. The TV-out Mode optimizes the desktop resolution
for the best TV-out compatibility. This means the image
displayed on your computer's LCD display will be reduced
in size and cannot be viewed full screen.
NOTE: In order to enable the TV-out Mode you must have Theater Mode selected which is selected by default. - While holding down the "Fn" key, press the "F5" key three times consecutively. The display will switch to your television.
- Insert the DVD title into the DVD Drive.
- If the movie title does not auto play, you can use the CD
Control button or click on the play button located on the
DVDExpress user interface.
ALTERNATE PROCEDURE:
- Click on "Start", select "Programs", "Mediamatics DVDExpress" and double click on "Mediamatics DVD Player".
- The DVDExpress user interface will be displayed. In the lower left hand corner of the user interface there will be a button with a box inside and a check mark inside the box. This is the DVD options button. Click on the DVD options button.
- The DVD Options window will appear. Click on the Display
tab. Place a check in the white box to the left of "TV-out
Mode" by clicking on it. Then click on "Apply"
and then on "OK". This will enable the TV-out
Mode. The TV-out Mode optimizes the desktop resolution
for the best TV-out compatibility. This means the image
displayed on your computer's LCD display will be reduced
in size and cannot be viewed full screen.
NOTE: In order to enable the TV-out Mode you must have Theater Mode selected which is selected by default. - Right click on an open area of your desktop. This will
display the "Display Properties"
window. - Click on the "Settings" tab.

- Click on "Apply", then "OK".

- Click on "yes".
- Click on the "Advanced" button. The "S3 Inc. Savage/IX w/MV Properties" window will appear.
- Click on the "S3 DuoView+" tab. Now you need to
decide if you want to show the DVD movie on the
television only or on the television and internal LCD
display simultaneously.
TELEVISION ONLY
- Under "Display Devices", select "TV" and click on "Apply".
- A "S3 DuoView+" window appears stating "Your settings will now be tested. This could take a few seconds, during which your screen might flicker. If the output doesn't appear correctly, wait 15 seconds, and previous settings will be restored." Click on "OK".
- The internal display will disappear and the screen will
appear on your television. Another "S3 DuoView+"
Window will appear stating "New mode was set. Do you
want to keep this setting?" Click on "Yes".
You will have 15 seconds to confirm you want to keep
these changes before the previous setting will be
restored.
NOTE: The desktop displayed on your television will likely be larger than the viewable area. By using the accupoint or mouse you can scroll the desktop image by moving the pointer in the direction you wish to move the viewable area.
TELEVISION AND INTERNAL DISPLAY
- Under "Controller Options" select "Dual controller".
- Under "Display Devices", select "LCD/TV" and click on "Apply".
- A "S3 DuoView+" window appears stating "Your settings will now be tested. This could take a few seconds, during which your screen might flicker. If the output doesn't appear correctly, wait 15 seconds, and previous settings will be restored." Click on "OK".
- Another "S3 DuoView+" Window will appear stating "New mode was set. Do you want to keep this setting?" Click on "Yes".
- At the "S3 Inc. Savage/IX w/MV Properties" window, click on "OK".
- At the "Display Properties" window, click on
"OK".
NOTE: "Controller Options" and "Display Devices" settings are not saved. If the computer is re-booted these settings will revert back to their default configuration.
- Insert your DVD movie into the DVD drive.
- If the movie title does not auto play, you can use the CD Control button or Click on the play button located on the DVDExpress user interface.
