Issue
This document describes how you can determine whether your Toshiba PC is equipped with USB 2.0
Procedure
You can determine whether your Toshiba PC supports USB 2.0 by referring to these resources:
  • The first Toshiba PC that had USB 2.0 support
was the Satellite 5200/5205 models. These were first released in late 2002. Toshiba models first released prior to October/November 2002 do not have USB 2.0 hardware. This includes Tecra 9xxx, Portege 4xxx, Satellite 18xx, and Satellite Pro 6xxx models, all of which were first released before the Satellite 5200/5205 models. Other Toshiba models first released after October/November 2002 may or may not contain USB 2.0 hardware.
  • Check the Detailed specs for your Toshiba PC
If the published specs indicate USB 2.0, then your Toshiba PC is equipped with USB 2.0 capability. If the specs don't indicate USB 2.0 (or if they don't specify), then your Toshiba PC is equipped with USB 1.1 capability.
  • Check Windows XP/2000 Device Manager
In Windows XP, click Start, then right-click on "My Computer" and choose Properties. In Windows 2000, click Start/Settings/Control Panel, and double-click the System icon. In System Properties, click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. From the Device Manager window, expand the branch labeled "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". If you see an entry for "USB 2.0 Root Hub". your Toshiba PC is definitely equipped with USB 2.0 capability. If you don't see an entry for "USB 2.0 Root Hub", it's quite likely that your Toshiba PC is equipped with USB 1.1 capability.
