
Avoiding Problems updating the THRiVE Tablet to the Latest Version of the System Image

System Images need to be install through the Service Station Application. This document provides the steps to update to the latest released image.
Note: After updating the system it is generally not possible to roll back the image to an earlier version.
- Resolution
I. Verify installed version of Android
A. From the home screen go to Apps > Service Station
B. Check the Android Version. The THRiVE originally shipped with a 3.1xxx version, Honeycomb. The latest version starts with 4.0xxx version, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
II. Prepare for update
A. As a precaution back up any any critical files before upgrading your device.
B. Confirm the tablet is currently connected to the internet. This can verified by browsing to new a website.
C. Set the tablet's date and time to the correct settings.
D. Remove any attached or inserted devices such as SD cards and USB devices.
III. Updating the tablet
A. Go to Apps > Service Station
B. Select Check for Updates, this should populate the list of Available Software Updates.
1. If "No Software Updates Available" is displayed verify that the tablet has an active connection to the Internet and that the tablet is not already at the latest version, 4.0.xxxxxx.
2. If the internet connection is confirmed an no updates are displayed verify the Part Number displayed on the same screen. The first 5 digits should display PDA01U. If the part number is displayed differently the tablet may need to be serviced. Note: Tablets manufactured for different regions will end in a different letter, in which case this document does not apply.
3. If the part number, internet connection, and current version have all been verified, and no updates are displayed, check back again in a day or two in case the Toshiba software server is undergoing maintenance. If the after checking back the tablet still does not display any updates a factory data reset should be performed.
a. Factory data reset
- The factory data reset will erase everything off of the tablet so back up any critical data prior to performing this procedure.Go to Apps > Settings > Privacy and select Factory data reset.
- Follow the on screen directions and reset the tablet.
- After the factory reset, establish an Internet connection and reattempt the software update.
- If no updates are displayed contact Customer Support for troubleshooting.
C. Software updates
1. From Service Station Select the System Image Update and follow the on screen directions to update the tablet.
2. After the tablet has applied the update and restarts go back to Service Station and check for any additional System Image Updates. Repeat this step unit all updates have been applied.
3. If the update fails perform the following:
a. Verify that all the steps in section II. Prepare for Update have been applied.
b. Perform a Factory data reset
c. If the update still fails contact Customer Support.
