Installation and Configuration of the Magnia SG10 Virtual Private Networking Feature.
Procedure

All steps are to be performed from the client workstation (preferably connected to the Private Port).
For detailed explanations and use of the VPN feature, refer to the online VPN User's Guide titled "Virtual Private Network Installation and Usage for the Toshiba Magnia SG10 Server". The link to view the VPN User's Guide is located in the Network tab within the VPN screen.

This document will walk you through the following steps:

  • Downloading the VPN Upgrade.
  • Activation/Installation.
  • Assign or Remove VPN access to accounts.
  • Creating VPN Client Setup Disk.

VPN upgrade

  1. Launch the Magnia SG10 Administration webpage and then click on the Services tab.
  2. In the Services screen, select the upgrade titled "VPN Upgrade". (If the VPN Upgrade is not on the list, click on the Check for New Upgrades button.)
  3. Click on the Install Selected Upgrade button to begin upgrade installation.
    Follow the remaining on-screen instructions (where necessary) and reboot if required.

VPN Activation and installation:

  1. From the MAGNIA SG10 Administration page, click on the Network Tab and then click on the selection for VPN.
    If the VPN option is not available within the Network tab and the steps in "VPN Upgrade" have been completed, reboot the server appliance and restart your session for the SG10 Administration page.
  1. Enter the Service Activation Key in the sections provided and click on the Apply button.
    If the VPN Service has not yet been purchased, click on the "purchase the VPN Service" and call the phone provided. After purchasing the Service, you will receive the Service Activation Key (via e-mail) which will enable the VPN Service to start.The Service Activation Key is specific to the SG10's serial number. Have the correct serial number available.
  1. Click on the OK button to continue with the upgrade istallation:

If the warning message pops up stating that the provided Service Activation Key entered is invalid, verify the Server's serial number.The Service Activation Key is assigned to a specific serial number.

  1. Once completed, a message will appear, notifying you that the VPN software has been installed.
  1. You are now ready to assign VPN access to specific accounts.

Assigning VPN Access to accounts.

  1. Open the SG10 Administration Webpage and click on the Network Tab.
  2. Within the Network tab, click on the VPN button to view the VPN options screen.
  3. Within the VPN options screen, click on the Enable/Disable Users link. This will display a list of current accounts. Be sure that the "Enable VPN" box is check marked.
  4. To allow an account access to the SG10 through the VPN connection, place a check mark in the box to the right of the account.
  5. After you have selected the account(s) to allow VPN access, click on the "Apply" button to apply the changes and then "Cancel" to return to the main VPN screen.
    The Next button is visible in this screen only if you follow the onscreen instruction immediately after the VPN installation has completed.

Creating VPN installation floppy diskette.

If you are continuing from the initial setup and installation of the VPN software, clicking on the Next button from the previous section will bring you to a "VPN Diskette Image Download" screen. If not, click on the "Generate Client Setup Diskette" link from the VPN options screen.

  1. Follow the onscreen instructions and insert a floppy diskette when prompted.

COMMENTS:
For SG10 owners, the VPN software is a software upgrade that must be purchased. The software is not a free upgrade to the original system. If the SG10 resides behind a corporate firewall, please contact your LAN administrator. User(s) must have level 3 access to install software and enable VPN access.
