Issue

>

The Toshiba Fingerprint Utility may cause some systems to experience loud fan noise and intermittent lockups.

Resolution

>

1) Insure customer has latest Toshiba Fingerprint Utility that is posted on Toshiba downloads section of www.support.toshiba.com

2) In Device Manager, go to Biometric Devices > Authentec Inc. AES1660 properties > Power Manager Tab > take check mark out of Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

3) In Control Panel, go to Power Options > Select "Change Plan Settings" of current power plan being used > Change advanced power settings > TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings > Cooling Method > change both "On Battery:" and "Plugged in:" to "Cooling Optimized" setting.

Procedure

>

The "Cooling Optimized" setting will allow fan to run more continously at lower speed to evacuate CPU heat generated on a more timely basis and create less fan noise as fan will not be running at highest speed to catch up to heat dissipation requirements.  Unchecking setting "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" will keep the watch-dog timer in Toshiba Fingerprint Utility from  possibly locking Windows up when power management event is tripped.  This was an issue with the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility.
