- Procedure for synching the Pocket PC with a Bluetooth Enabled Computer Using the Toshiba Pocket PC Bluetooth SD I/O Card.
- Procedure
- Install ActiveSync on the Bluetooth enabled computer and establish a partnership between the Pocket PC and the computer while the Pocket PC is cradled. This needs to be done through the USB connection, before trying Bluetooth.
- Install the Toshiba SD Bluetooth software on the Pocket PC while it is powered on in the cradle and connected to the computer. After the Toshiba SD Bluetooth software finishes installing, the Pocket PC will reset itself.
- Turn off the Pocket PC and then Insert the Toshiba SD
Bluetooth card into the SD slot on Pocket PC, power on,
and the "Bluetooth Settings" screen will appear
after a few seconds (See Note 1).
Warning: the Bluetooth should only be inserted or removed when the Pocket PC is off, and you should wait for five seconds after powering off, before removing it. - On the PDA, tap Settings/Change User Mode/Advanced Settings and select the Security Mode you want to use and then tap OK and then OK again. This setting must be the same on the Pocket PC and on the computer.
- On the PDA, tap on Return to Top of Page to return to the Bluetooth Settings screen.
- On the PDA, tap on Remote Device. If there are any that show a status of "Ghost" delete them by holding the pen down on the "Ghost" and selecting Delete from the pop-up menu.
- The computer needs to be running and fairly close by.
Also, the Bluetooth card in the computer needs to be
active.
Note: If the Antenna switch on the computer is off, then Bluetooth will not work. - On the PDA tap on Tools/Device Search. You will see all available Bluetooth devices with the status of "Not Connected".
- Tap & hold the stylus on the device name and click "Service List" and then click on "Refresh". If the security mode was set, enter the "Bluetooth Passkey (PIN)". You will then be prompted to enter the same key on the computer. This has to be completed within the time limit (see Note 2).
- On the PDA, you will see the service name of the remote device and the COM port that is assigned to it (note the COM port number). The status of the remote device will be disconnected.
- On the PDA, tap & hold the stylus on the Service name and click "Connect". The status of the device will be connected.
- On the computer, start ActiveSync and on the "File"
menu select "Connection Settings".
Note: If you have completed Synching before with Bluetooth, you can click on File/Get Connected, then click on Cancel. The Active Sync on the computer should show connecting. You can skip the next step. - On the computer, place a check mark next to "Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port " and select the COM port that was assigned to the Pocket PC from the drop down menu. ActiveSysnc will now try and connect to the Bluetooth device.
- On the PDA, tap on the Pocket PC Start Menu/Programs/"Bluetooth Connection". This must be done while ActiveSync is "Connecting". Tap on "Retry" to continue to connect. ActiveSync on the computer has to be trying to connect to the Pocket PC before you start the Bluetooth Connection program on the Pocket PC. If you started it first, cancel it and restart it while the computer is still "connecting...".
- Authentication will occur and synchronization between the
computer and the Pocket PC will occur.
Note 1 - If you get a message on the Pocket PC of:
"Bluetooth Settings
The power is turned off or there is an error with the Bluetooth SD card. Confirm that the card is working properly."
Click OK, then power off the Pocket PC, and power the Pocket PC back on. After a few seconds, the bluetooth settings screen should appear without the error message. You may have to repeat this. If this does not work, try resetting the SD card while the power is off.
Note 2 - If you get a message on the Pocket PC of:
"Bluetooth Settings
Unable to update service information"
Click OK, then click on Refresh again. If this does not resolve it, verify that you are not trying to connect to a "Ghost", try powering off an back on, and check the bluetooth card in the computer. This error message can also happen if the security settings on the Pocket PC and the computer do not match. Verify settings again, also try changing the settings, and also try both with no security. You may need to start again from step 6.
COMMENTS:
If Activesync will not connect, verify the following setting on the Pocket PC:
Click on Start/Activesync/Tools/Options.
Verify "Enable synchronization when cradled using:" is set to "SD Bluetooth".
