- Issue
Merging by ARCserve may require longer process time when the tape device is vertically positioned by placing the Magina on the rack.
Cause:
To execute merge, ARCserve issues Space command to DDS4-AL to initiate the search in fast-forward mode. During the search in fast-forward mode, DDS4-AL reads the marking on the tape. When the marking is not recognized for some reason, DDS4-AL retries the search. During the search, ARCserve receives no signal. Retry is repeated several times and exceeds the time range specified in ARCserve. ACRserve interprets it as "time out" and makes DDS4-AL to restart the search from the beginning. Occurrence of this symptom is very rare.- Resolution
Upgraded the F/W revision of cassette magnetic device from L1T8 to L1T9.
How to update F/W and How to confirm the update:
- Insert Test-Program FD and boot server.
- Confirm the completion of boot-up.
- Eject cassette magnetic tape(s) by pressing EJECT button if you find any in device.
- Insert FW tape in the cassette magnetic tape device. In case of auto-loader, insert the tape in No.8 location. After a few minutes, tape will be automatically ejected and set the device in reset. (Initialization will start)
- Server will be re-booted.
- Confirm the revision of F/W.
- Run test program.
- Choose [SCSI TEST] --> [INQUIRY]. Check for updated
REV.
CAUTION:
ACRserve uses both "device name" and "F/W revision" of the tape device for its identification. If the FW was upgraded, ARCserve identifies the device as a different device. In other words, the device is identified as belonging to a different device group. This invalidates the grouping for schedule function and disables the execution of scheduling.
Please reconfigure ARCserve setting after FW is upgraded. (No reconfiguration is required for ARCserv2000).
