- Issue
- Installing Windows NT/2000 onto a system with both IDE MegaRAID and SCSI MegaRAID present may cause contention during OS setup.
- Procedure
If the desire is to have the OS installed on an IDE HDD, there are two methods available.
NOTE: For detailed instructions on how to work with both SCSI and IDE RAID configuration utilities, please refer to the appropriate sections of the MAGNIA Z310 User’s Guide.
Method 1:Remove the SCSI MegaRAID controller card and install the OS on the IDE HDD (recommended). To add an MR493 at this point, follow these steps:
- Power down the system.
- Install MR493 in Z310, then boot machine.
- When the OS comes up, the "New Hardware Wizard" starts.
- Select "Cancel".
- "New Hardware Wizard" starts again. (For the "RAID Dummy", or "Nodev" device.)
- Select "Cancel".
- Reboot machine.
- When the OS comes up, the "New Hardware Wizard" starts.
- Point the OS to MR493 driver. The driver installs.
- "New Hardware Wizard" starts again.
- Point to "nodev". The driver installs.
Method 2:
Remove all SCSI HDDs leaving only the IDE HDD(s) as the OS installation target. Failure to remove HDDs that have been configured as a logical device will result in permanent data loss.
- While booting, the SCSI MegaRAID controller may report a
warning or error message that the logical device
previously configured is no longer present as shown below:
Press [Ctrl][M] to run Configuration Utility or any other Key to continue … - Press Ctrl-M to run the Setup Utility. You must use the
Ctrl-M key combination while the SCSI MegaRAID is
displayed. You cannot delete SCSI MegaRAID information
from the IDE MegaRAID setup utility.
NOTE: If you have configured HDDs to participate in a RAID logical device and you wish to retain this logical device configuration you MUST remove these drives prior to proceeding. Failure to do so will result in permanent data loss. - Select “Configure” then “Clear Configuration” to clear all array information.
- Confirm your request and exit the utility by hitting the Esc key. The system will reboot.
- Install the OS following directions in the User Guide.
- To add an MR493 at this point, follow the 11 steps from Method 1 above.
- Replace SCSI HDDs. The SCSI RAID controller should be able to read the configuration information off of the hard drives and will prompt you to accept either the card's NVRAM or the hard drive configuration. Select the hard drive configuration and your previously created logical devices will be restored and saved in the NVRAM of the SCSI RAID controller.
