Issue

The Windows XP SP1 or SP2 Installer notifies you that your existing Yamaha AC/XG sound driver is incompatible with the Service Pack you're trying to install.

If you are upgrading from the original release of Windows XP to either SP1, or SP2, you're likely to see this notification.  You shouldn't see the notification if you're upgrading from SP1 to SP2.

Resolution

Update the Yamaha AC/XG sound driver. Click the following link to download and the newer version 6.13.10.2152 of the driver, and then continue with the instructions below.

Procedure

Toshiba recommends you uninstall the incompatible Yamaha sound driver before you install the Windows XP Service Pack. Doing so will ensure the smoothest upgrade.

Either way, you'll need to uninstall the existing, incompatible Yamaha sound driver. Use Windows XP Add/Remove Programs (in Control Panel) to uninstall the existing driver.

  1. Click Start, Control Panel (or Start, Settings, Control Panel), then double-click the icon labeled "Add or Remove Programs"

  2. Scroll down the list, and select the Yamaha sound driver

  3. Click Change/Remove.

  4. Install the new Yamaha driver

  5. Restart your computer
