Issue

For some of the first units manufactured of the mini notebook models listed above, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were turned OFF by default -- they were off when the computer was shipped from the factory, and they would remain off until you turn them on.

Resolution

The Fn+F8 hotkey combination turns Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and off.

Press and hold the Fn key, then tap the F8 key repeatedly to cycle through the icons for All Devices, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The icons (and the descriptions beneath them) indicate the current status. As shown in the screen shot below, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are OFF by default.

To turn Wi-Fi on, release the Fn key with the Wi-Fi icon selected, as shown below. As the text beneath the icon indicates, this will 'enable' Wi-Fi (change its state from OFF to ON). You can turn Bluetooth on by releasing the Fn key with the Bluetooth icon selected.

You can select "all devices" (the 'ON' antenna icon) to turn on both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth -- though Toshiba recommends that you turn on just one or the other, since their signals may interfere with each other.

If you see the message, "Wireless Communication is Disabled. Please Turn on The Wireless Communication Switch", please refer to Toshiba Support Bulletin 98082745 for instruction to turn on the (software) Wireless Communications Switch.
