Num Lock remains enabled on internal keyboard after shutdown

On the models listed above, if you enable the keyboard's Num Lock function, it may remain enabled even after the computer is shut down and re-started. This can cause numbers to be displayed when some of the letter keys (U, I, O, J, K, L) are pressed.

Num Lock may be enabled by pressing the Fn+F11 hotkey combination, or by pressing the NumLock key on an external keyboard. Num Lock may be disabled at any time by pressing Fn+F11 (or the Num Lock key), but ordinarily, Num Lock should be disabled automatically when the computer is shut down.

Resolution

Update the computer's BIOS to fix this problem, by clicking the appropriate link for your computer model from the following list.

Satellite U400 / U405, Part No. PSU44U: BIOS version 3.30.

Satellite U400 / U405, Part No. PSU40U: BIOS version 3.90.

Satellite U405D / M305D, Part No. PSU48U / PSMDYU: BIOS version 2.60.

The computer's Part No. is printed on a label on the underside of the case.

These BIOS versions are the newest available as of March 2009. Yet-newer BIOS versions may be available from the Toshiba Support Website, at support.toshiba.com.
