Visual Battery Identification for Battery Pack Recall ProgramOctober 30, 2008
The following instructions explain how to visually determine whether or not you have a battery that is eligible for replacement under the Battery Pack Recall Program, and to then obtain the Battery Number and Battery Serial Number. This manual method requires that you remove the battery from the computer, and then visually match identification numbers on the battery's identification label with sample pictures of batteries and their identification labels below.
See the Battery Pack Recall Program Information document for more details. Please note that this document is for identifying notebook batteries sold by Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. in the United States.
Note: If you are reading this document on a computer containing a battery that needs to be inspected, you will need to print the instructions so that you will have them available after you shut down the computer .
To determine whether a given battery is subject to this recall, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer: Click the Windows Start button, then click Shut Down, and then select "Shut down" from the dropdown list that appears.
2. Unplug all cords and cables connected to the computer, including the AC adapter.
3. Turn the computer upside down, for easy access to the battery.
4. Remove the battery from the computer. For detailed and illustrated battery removal instructions, see the User's Guide for the computer, available on the Toshiba Service and Support website, at pcsupport.toshiba.com.
5. Locate the 'Model NO.' on the battery identification label -- shown in the picture below.
6. Compare the Model NO. to this list:
- PA3383U-1BRS
- PA3395U-1BRS
- PA3421U-1BRS
If the Model NO. of your battery does not match any entry in this table, then your battery is not subject to this recall, and is not eligible for replacement under this program. Please ignore the remainder of this document and any other information about this battery replacement program.
If the Model NO. of your battery does match one of the Model NOs. in the list above, please continue with the following instructions.7. Locate the 10 character Battery Serial No. on the battery's other label, in the picture below.
8. Compare the Battery Serial No. to this list:Model NO. Battery Serial No. PA3421U-1BRS

If both the Battery NO. and the Battery Serial No. of your battery do not match, as described above, then your battery is not subject, and is not eligible for replacement under this program. Please ignore any other information about this battery replacement program.
If both the Battery NO. and the Battery Serial No. do match as described above, the battery is eligible for free replacement by Toshiba.
9. Please write down the Model NO., labeling it "Battery Number", and the Battery Serial Number.
10. Finally, fill out the online battery replacement form.
Alternately, you may provide your battery identification information to an agent at the Toshiba Customer Support Center, at 800-457-7777.
You are requested to return the original battery pack to the following address in order to ensure proper disposal in accordance with applicable environmental and other laws and regulations:
