- Issue
Windows XP does not support a color resolution of 256 colors or a screen resolution of 640x480 in Display Properties as was available in earlier versions of Windows.
Symptom:
Some legacy programs that require 256 colors or 640x480 screen resolution will not run under Windows XP- Resolution
Complete the following procedure to enable a program to run in these settings with Windows XP.
- Close all programs and windows and return to the desktop.
- Navigate to the shortcut used to start the program.
- Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties from the menu that appears.
- In the window that opens, select the Compatibility tab.
- Under the Display Settings heading, locate "Run In 256 Colors" and "Run In 640 x 480 Screen Resolution".
- Ensure that a checkmark(s) is/are) in the box for "Run In 256 Colors" and "Run In 640 x 480 Screen Resolution".
- Click OK.
- Launch the program.
NOTE: When the program closes, Windows® will reset to the previous display settings.
