Information

Follow the steps below to set up a Toshiba dynadock for use with just an external monitor -- with the computer's internal LCD monitor turned off. It's important to follow these steps exactly as indicated.

To maximize the performance of an external monitor with the dynadock, first connect it directly to the computer and install the manufacturer's drivers, before connecting it to the dynadock.

1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.

2. Click the Adjust screen resolution link under Appearance and Personalization, as shown below. This will open the Display Settings window.

3. Click monitor icon 3, as shown below." TOSHIBA Video Dock..." will appear in the drop-down list below the icons.

4. Click the checkbox for "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" to select it, as shown below.

5. Click the Apply button. Both the internal and external monitors will blink on and off one or more times. Click the Yes button at the prompt to keep the new setting.

6. Click the checkbox for "This is my main monitor" to select it, as shown below. This selection will gray out once selected.

7. Click the Apply button. Both the internal and external monitors will flash on and off one or more times. The external Monitor will then show the Windows Task Bar and Desktop Icons. The computer's internal LCD monitor will display only the Windows wallpaper, the Control Panel window, and the Display Settings window.

8. Click monitor icon 1, as shown below. "Generic PnP Monitor on _______________” will appear in the drop-down list below the icons, and monitor icon 1 will be highlighted. The name of the computer's video adapter will be displayed in place of the blank above.

9. Click the checkbox for "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" to un-select it (the check in the box should disappear). The monitor icon will move to the right of monitor icon 3 and will become grayed out.

10. Click the Apply button.

11. Click the Yes button at the prompt to keep the new setting. The computer's internal LCD monitor will turn off, leaving only the external monitor on.

12. Click the OK button to close the Display Settings window.

To use the computer with the display lid closed -- with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse -- then follow the additional steps below, so that closing the display lid doesn't turn the computer off or place it into the Sleep or Hibernation state.

1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel .

2. Click the System and Maintenance category.

3. Click the Power Options category.

4. Click "Choose what closing the lid does " (at the left side of the Power Options window).

5. In the drop-down list titled "When I close the lid: " select Do nothing for both "On battery" and "Plugged in".

6. Click the Save changes button, and the close the Power Options window.

Closing the computer's display lid will now have no effect on its operation.
