Issue
How to install Windows 2000 Server / Advanced Server on the Magnia Z300 Server with IDE RAID from CD.
Resolution

Requirements:

Hardware:

  • USB Floppy drive
  • If the Z1-external device bays are attached to the Z300, disconnect them before proceeding with the installation.

Software:

  • AMI MegaRAID IDE Driver diskette for Windows 2000 (available on the SST CD or on Toshiba's Support Website)
  • Bootable Windows 2000 CD

  1. Connect the USB Floppy diskette to the USB port located on the front panel of the server.
  2. Power on the server and press F2 to boot into the BIOS.
  3. In the Boot section of the BIOS, change the boot priority so that CD-ROM is the first boot option.
  4. Insert the Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server CD into the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Press F10 to save and exit.
  6. Allow the server to reboot and follow on screens prompts. You may be asked to press any key to boot to the CD-ROM.
  7. After the system begins to boot off the CD, the display will read "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration". Press the "F6" key immediately upon seeing this message.
  8. Windows 2000 setup will display a dialog that allows the user to specify additional Hard Drive controllers that will be loaded BEFORE setup begins the auto-detection process for HD Controllers. Press the "S" key to specify additional controllers and when prompted, insert the "AMI MegaRAID IDE Driver diskette for Windows 2000" diskette.
  9. Select the "MegaRAID IDE driver with Backplane Support for Windows 2000" and proceed with the Windows 2000 installation. (During the installation you may be asked to insert the MegaRAID IDE driver diskette into the floppy driver after you selected your partition for installation so keep the driver diskette readily available or leave inside the floppy drive).
  10. After Setup completes copying files to the HDD, the system will reboot. Allow the server to boot to the OS menu and not the CD-ROM. The OS installation will continue.
  11. Allow Setup to complete the installation and boot to the OS. Within the OS, go to Device Manager and install the video driver and all necessary drivers for extra RAID or SCSI controllers installed (available on the SST CD or on Toshiba's Support Website).

COMMENTS:
For instructions on installing and connecting Expansion Devices, please refer to the Z300 User Guide's available on the SST CD or on Toshiba's Support Website.
