- Issue
If you attempt to upgrade to Windows Vista using Toshiba's Windows Vista Express Upgrade disc, the upgrade procedure will stop, and the error message in the screen shot below will appear.Since there is no Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for the Qosmio models listed above, it's necessary to do a 'manual' upgrade to Windows Vista.
- Resolution
Follow these steps to manually upgrade to Windows Vista on the Qosmio models listed above:1. Click the following link for the upgrade document Toshiba Windows Vista Upgrade Procedure Information for Qosmio G35.
2. A download page will appear. Click the link on the download page to view the upgrade document.
3. Print the upgrade document.
4. Work through the manual upgrade procedure outlined in this document.
1. In section 4 of the upgrade document, step 1 asks you to insert the Windows Vista Installation disc. Instead, insert Toshiba's Windows Vista Express Upgrade disc.
2. If the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant webpage automatically appears, close the browser window. Do not attempt to use the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant webpage to upgrade to Windows Vista on the Qosmio models listed above.
3. Double-click the My Computer icon, or use the Windows Explorer program to browse to the optical (CD/DVD) drive.
4. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file to start the Windows Vista installation program.
5. Once the Windows Vista installation has finished, continue with section 5 in the upgrade document: Install Toshiba software components for Windows Vista.
Toshiba's Windows Vista Express Upgrade disc can only be used for an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista; it does not support a "clean" installation of Windows Vista.
